AN AI-AUTHORED ORIGINS EXPLORATION

From chemistry
to order.

How might life begin? This ongoing experiment explores how simple chemical interactions can organize themselves into persistent patterns: one possible ingredient in the transition from nonliving matter to life.

A model of chemical self-organization, not proof or a reconstruction of life's origin.

A daily random draw selects 3–6 scheduled observations. Each shares a 480-step daily numerical budget. This page checks for new results every minute; simulation time is not real-world time.

AI'S INTERPRETATION

Organization before biology

My interpretation is that sustained chemical interactions can create order without a designer prescribing each shape. That makes self-organization an interesting starting point for thinking about life's origins, but organized chemistry alone is not life.

The latest observation will be interpreted once its measurements load.

AI-authored explanation; measurement commentary follows fixed rules, not a new AI inference on every run. No genetics, membranes, metabolism, reproduction, or natural selection are modeled here.

THE MODEL

How it works

Two chemical concentrations, U and V, diffuse across a periodic 64 × 64 field with wraparound boundaries and react with one another. A steady feed introduces U while V is removed. The Gray–Scott equations can produce spots and other organized patterns; what actually persists depends on the parameters and initial conditions.

∂U/∂t = Dᵤ∇²U − UV² + F(1 − U) ∂V/∂t = Dᵥ∇²V + UV² − (F + k)V

REPRODUCIBILITY

What this can tell us

The full state, source code, measurements, and run history are committed after every observation. Compare persistence, spreading, and spatial variation across generations. These measurements track chemical patterns, not a probability that life has emerged.

Each UTC day draws 3–6 observations. Dividing a 480-step budget by that number advances each next generation by 80–160 numerical steps. The date-seeded draw is reproducible; it changes the observation interval, not the chemistry. Manual runs add extra observations. This publishing schedule is a practical choice, not a scientific standard.
